Israel Water Innovation Day, 6 July 2011

Approximately 2 billion people around the world either lack access to sufficient quantities of water, or are supplied with water unfit for drinking. Governments, academia, international institutions and corporations around the world are searching for new and innovative solutions to meet the world’s sustainability challenges. These efforts are no longer targeting a specific nation; rather, efforts are focusing on finding a global connecting thread.

Having coped with water shortages for more than 60 years, the State of Israel has gained experience in developing unique solutions for issues such as intelligent water resource management, irrigation technologies, water quality, water purification, wastewater restoration, desalination and water security. Israel, with its innovative and vibrant industry, has become a major player in these fields.

Reclaiming almost 75% of its wastewater, Israel’s total water consumption remains nearly the same since 1964. Israel today is recognised as a global leader in the water arena, continuing to offer breakthrough technological innovations across a variety of areas. Indeed Israel's NRW (non-revenue water) is approximately 12%, half the European average.
