Report: The UK delegation to ILSI-BioMed 2012

In its 11th annual conference this year, ILSI-BioMed is considered the leading international conference covering the fast-growing field of innovation in the biomedical, health care and life sciences industries, where industry and academia join hands to learn about the latest and future developments, explore opportunities for new business ventures, meet up with old colleagues and make new contacts.

As in previous years, the Trade & Economic Office at the Embassy of Israel, London, coordinated a delegation of companies and individuals from the life sciences spectrum in UK and Ireland to attend Biomed and additionally benefit from tailored activities outside the conference.

This year we were pleased to have had 9 delegates from 8 companies and institutions, including the Welsh Government, joining our delegation. In addition to the large selection of seminars, networking events and one-on-one meetings offered by BioMed, our delegates enjoyed other activities specially planned for them: they met for an informal dinner with delegates from Italy and Germany prior to the conference, met Israeli companies which we had identified in advance as relevant to them and ended their stay in Israel in a unique tour to explore Israel’s innovative character through its leading research institution and two fascinating Israeli companies, renowned for their innovative technologies in the pharma and diagnostics fields.

Our delegates, some of which had exhibited in BioMed this year and had their own stands, found the conference very successful and enjoyed the delegation’s activities as well. With feedback from the meetings we had arranged between UK and Israeli companies have been very fruitful, we are expecting further follow-ups up quite soon. We are delighted to have been involved in organising another successful delegation and to increase the exposure to the Israeli life sciences arena through ILSI-BioMed.  We very much hope that the delegation would help to further develop the meaningful corporation between the UK and Israel that already exists in this field.

Report: Med-Invest

On Thursday 24 May, the Trade & Economic Office at the Embassy of Israel, together with DS Solomon Group and Nabarro LLP, organised a unique investment event.

Med-Invest, the first event of its kind, showcased both Israeli and UK companies, side by side, each of whom were looking for early sage investment in the area of medical devices. This event was unique in that it represented the first truly bilateral event, shining a spotlight on both the British and Israeli medical-innovation industries.

It is a widely-known fact that both Israel and the UK are world leaders in the area of medical innovations, with their respective industries being able to boast a wide range of cutting edge and innovative products. Med-Invest was no different: the companies on display were as diverse and varied as the industries.

In total, ten companies pitched their products to a room full of more than 70 potential investors and key decision makers, with innovations ranging from special tooth implants to revolutionary infant baby food supplements on display.

Each company delivered a short presentation on their product, the challenges that they had overcome and the investment that they were looking for. After the presentations, the companies had a chance to network with the audience over wine and canapés.

The event itself was very well received, and the companies delivered first-class presentations. Med-Invest had clearly created a tremendous amount of energy on the evening as the feedback from the guests were most positive, with many guests praising the innovations on display as being truly remarkable. We are delighted to have been involved in the organizing of this event, which has helped to further develop the meaningful corporation between the UK and Israel that already exists in this field.

Innovate Israel, London - 26 June 2012

UPDATE:  More information to be announced on Wednesday 23 May 2012

----------------------------------------------

Today we are pleased to announce the opening of registration for Innovate Israel.  Innovate Israel Technology Conference is being organised by UK Israel Business, the Trade & Economic Office at the Embassy of Israel, Yossi Vardi and a number of other tech entrepreneurs and partners in London on 26 June 2012.

The conference comes on the back of the UK Government’s recent White Paper released in February 2011, ‘Trade and Investment for Growth’, which named Israel as a key strategic partner for the UK in the technology sector. As such, the Israeli Ambassador to the UK, and the British Ambassador to Israel are giving their full support, and are finalising arrangements for several senior government ministers to be in attendance.

This exciting initiative will be the first time an event of this scale and magnitude has been organised between the UK and Israel. To this end, Innovate Israel aims to partner the technological brilliance of Israel, with the UK’s expertise in building large, successful technology companies. Israeli companies interested in potential joint ventures, corporate and business development and access to capital, will have a first-hand opportunity to network with major British and European firms who are keen to uncover opportunities in the latest technological advancements coming out of Israel.

The conference itself has three core areas of focus, web, mobile and digital content. Participants will have the opportunity to engage across a variety of platforms including fireside discussions, roundtables and plenary sessions, and the opportunity for 1-2-1 meetings. We anticipate the conference will attract an audience of 250 senior decision makers from the UK. In addition, the visiting Israeli delegation, organised by the Israel Export Institute and headed by Yossi Vardi, will comprise of  50 exciting growth stage companies.
