Israeli Companies Forum

Following the success of the last two annual meetings of the “Israeli Companies Forum”, the Commercial Office at the Embassy of Israel together with IDB London, BDO and UK Israel Business are arranging the 3rd Annual meeting of the “Israeli Companies Forum”.

On Wednesday 29th June 2011, around 150 senior managers of the leading Israeli companies operating in the UK will attend. The key speaker in the event will be Dr Yossi Bachar, Chairman Board of Directors at Israel Discount Bank.

This event is designed to introduce and provide an excellent opportunity for senior managers of Israeli companies operating in the UK to meet, network and discuss possible collaborations.

ILSI-Biomed Israel 2011

In May, the Commercial Office arranged a delegation from the UK to ILSI-BioMed 2011, one of the world’s most influential bio-medical events currently taking place in Tel Aviv.

Now in its 10th year, ILSI-BioMed attracts visitors from around the globe to hear a series of world-class speakers and to meet the very best of Israeli and selected American and European bio-medical device and life science companies.

The visit organised by the Commercial Office together with the Israel Export & International Cooperation Institute (IEICI) included among the conference; lectures, a visit to ‘Asuta’ - Israel’s largest and leading private medical services centre, one-to-one meetings, a visit to Merck Serono Israel R&D facilities and a tour of the old city of Jerusalem.

Additionally, Matthew Gould, the British Ambassador to Israel, hosted the UK delegates at a reception in his Residence in an event organised by UKTI and BIOTEC.

Ambassador Matthew Gould welcomed the guests commenting that, "across the spectrum of high tech activity: Bio-tech, Clean-tech and Digital, both Britain and Israel have something to offer to each other. Britain offers an impressive scientific base, high tech clusters and extraordinary customers across the range of tech activity. We can offer each other a partnership which ought to be much stronger and much more productive".

Israel at the Paris Air Show

Less than two weeks before the start of this year’s Paris Air Show, the Commercial Office has been very pleased with the considerable interest shown by British companies looking to pre-arrange meetings with Israeli Exhibitors.

With over a hundred year history, the Paris Air Show is the World’s largest military and civilian aircraft event, attracting close to 400,000 over the course of the week.
A combination of the need to continually protect her borders with the advancements made in the hi-tech industry, has helped to ensure Israel has a competitive advantage in the aerospace industry.

Israel will be represented by sixteen major industry players ranging from very well established companies such as the Israel Aerospace Industries Ltd (IAI) all the way through to innovative manufacturing companies like as Kanfit and Mtc.

Jersey looks to Israel for Innovation

UK ISRAEL BUSINESS is an organisation promoting bilateral trade and investment between the two countries. The Commercial Office at the Embassy of Israel enjoys a very close relationship with them and they work together on a number of projects.

A business delegation facilitated by UK ISRAEL BUSINESS recently took the States of Jersey Minister for Economic Development, Senator Alan Maclean, and Senator Freddie Cohen, Assistant Chief Minister, UK and International Relations, to Israel to promote trade and investment into Jersey.

The Ministers were accompanied by EDD Chief Officer, Mike King, Jersey Enterprise Director, Inward Investment and International Trade, Wayne Gallichan, and Director of International Affairs, Tom Walker, during their three day visit to Tel Aviv. The delegation, which also included Jersey Finance Chief Executive, Geoff Cook, focused on developing and diversifying Jersey business in three key areas:
  • Financial services
  • Clean technology (renewable energy, environmental transport etc)
  • eGaming
During the visit, ministers met with representatives from the Israeli Finance and Environment Ministries, the Chief Executive of the Tel Aviv Stock Exchange, the British Ambassador to Israel, His Excellency Matthew Gould, and visited the Israeli parliament. They also visited a number of key financial services and clean technology businesses, and held round table meetings with eGaming entrepreneurs.

"It is of great benefit to the island that we have been able to engage in positive meetings with senior Israeli politicians and business leaders,” commented Senator Cohen. “Israel is an important global market and we are pleased to be strengthening our political ties with the country, as well as meeting key business representatives."

Senator Maclean said the visit had been "extremely positive and productive,” adding: "We have attended a number of meetings with some of Israel's leading financial services companies and legal firms. Jersey's well-established reputation as a transparent, co-operative and well-regulated jurisdiction precedes us, and we have established some productive dialogues during our time here."

Daniel Seal, Chief Executive of UK ISRAEL BUSINESS, said: "This has been an important step in creating economic ties between Israel and Jersey. UK ISRAEL BUSINESS is delighted to be bringing these two countries together, which will improve the productivity of both Jersey and Israel."

Israeli officials accompanying the delegation spoke of "a massive synergy" between the countries and were hopeful that there would be repeat visits as well as a reciprocal delegation by Israeli business leaders to Jersey.
